Annapurna Base Camp Trekking is a moderate excursion in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It is also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trekking. The base camp is surrounded by the Annapurna Himalayan chain, which is on the shape of amphitheater. Renowned for the glowing mountain views, lush forest and prosperous ethnic culture, trek to Annapurna base camp offers a unique experience of scrambling above the fog.
Driving from Pokhara to Nayapul, the trek begins with a required paperwork at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) office. The entire journey goes through this conserved area. The trail is fine and wide at the beginning. You will pass some cultivating land and cross the bridge. A steep climb up to Ulleri is breathtaking. The lush rhododendron forest begins and goes through it to Ghorepani. Poon Hill is a short hike from there, which is the best viewpoint of the spectacular Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Himchuli and others. After a couple of days, the Annapurna trail follows the bank of the Modi Khola River. The upper section of Annapurna base camp is rugged and offers differently recognizing features of the surrounding hills and gorges. Passing Machhapuchhre base camp (Fishtail base camp), you reach to the base camp of Mt. Annapurna, which is surrounded by the sky touching snow capped Himalayas from three side of walls.
Annapurna base camp remains snowy for many seasons. You can explore the golden sunrise view over the pyramid shaped mountains. Even the 360 degree views are enchanting. It can be the best place to form the poetic lines or other creative forms of literary work. For the meditation or yoga lovers, this will be the preliminary choice. The descending trail from Annapurna base camp leads you to Jhinu, the place where you can have a natural hot spring bath. If you want to explore the folk Gurung culture and traditions, trek to Ghandruk from Chhomrong. It is also known as the village of Gurkhas and trek to Nayapul, the ending point of the Annapurna base camp trip.
March to May and September to November are the best time for the Annapurna base camp trek. It is the most rain falling part of Nepal, so better to avoid this season.
