About Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lake Trek

Everest region is a trekkers’ paradise. Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lake Trek is one of the brilliant trekking that offers exclusive panoramas of the 8000-meter peaks, lakes, and glaciers. The technical Cho La Pass connects the Everest base camp and the Gokyo Lake, which is over 5000 meters long and is often regarded as the most technical pass among the three high passes in the Everest region.

This excellent trek to Gokyo Lake via Everest Base Camp begins from Lukla. Passing through multiple Sherpa villages, the trekkers reach the crowd of Sherpa communities at Namche Bazaar and then to Khumjung. This trek requires acclimatization to adapt with the low oxygen rate in the higher altitude. Moreover, physical fitness is also very important to successfully walk this trail. The trekkers can also explore the cultural fascinations of monasteries, chortens, and Mani walls.

There are two ways to walk further, going to Gokyo Lake first or to Everest Base Camp. The itinerary that we have prepared leads you to the Everest base camp first and then to the Gokyo Lake after crossing the Cho La Pass. Everest base camp and Kalapatthar are famous destinations. The EBC Gokyo Lake Trek also takes us for an amazing exploration of the Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar Viewpoint. You will just love the view these spots offer.

After such an amazing journey to reach the Everest Base Camp, we climb down to Gokyo Lake. The alpine Gokyo valley, hike to Gokyo Ri, and exploring the exciting scenarios are the brilliant aspects of this trip. During the Everest Cho La Pass Gokyo Lake Trekking, you can explore the Himalayan views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse along with the Ngozumpa glacier.

The Everest base camp Gokyo Lake Trek ends at Lukla after descending from Gokyo Lake. Adventure Bound organizes this trek with all arrangements. Please, contact us for more details.

Itinerary

As you land at the Tribhuwan International Airport, the representatives from Adventure Bound will welcome you to Nepal. From there, you will be transferred to a hotel in Kathmandu in a private vehicle. You can check in at the hotel and get freshened up before taking a stroll in the nearby areas. Moreover, we also recommend the trekkers try some of the best local delicacies prepared by the local hotels and restaurants in Kathmandu.

On the second day, we head towards the Tribhuwan International Airport once again. From the airport, the trekkers will fly to Lukla (Tenzing and Hilary Airport). As you land in the Lukla Airport, the airport at the highest altitude, our guides will welcome you. Then, the trekkers will take their backpacks, get freshened up, and then begin the walk.

On the second day, we also ascend on the first walking trail of the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek. This section of the route takes on 3-4 hours of gentle ascend from Lukla to Phakding. Phakding is the first destination that the trekkers will reach by walking during the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek. Phakding is a small village that sits comfortably at an altitude of 2652 meters above sea level. The route that ascends from Lukla to Phakding takes the trekkers significantly closer to nature and the unique settlement of the Khumbu region. For overnight stays and dinners, the Adventure Bound team arranges high-quality hotels or guesthouses in Phakding.

On the third day of the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lakes Trek, we will ascend to one of the most beautiful towns in the entire country. It is none other than Namche Bazaar, a highly developed Sherpa town settling at an altitude of 3440 meters above sea level. This town is so developed that most of the people reaching here cannot even believe that it is such a well highly developed town at such a high altitude.

Moreover, this place is also a blessing to the eyes and souls of the trekkers because of its location, the treatment offered by the locals, and so many other elements here. This town is not just any other town in the Himalayas, besides, it is also the heart of the Sherpa community and a trading hub for the entire country. You can interact with the locals in this town and check out the nearby areas before heading to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.

Before ascending any further in the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek, we will have a rest day or acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar on the fourth day. Other than simply resting for the whole day, the trekkers will go for some acclimatizing practices as well. For that reason, our guides take the trekkers for a quick day hike to Everest View Hotel. This hotel holds a world record for being a hotel located at the highest altitude as the Everest View Hotel sits at an altitude of 3880 meters above sea level.

It just takes about 3-4 hours for the trekkers to finish the Everest view hotel hike. So, you can utilize the rest of the day to explore around Namche Bazaar. We also recommend the trekkers visit the Sherpa Museum and Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center. Both of these places offer the best background check of Sherpa culture. After exploring all of these amazing places, the trekkers will return to the hotel for dinner and another overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.

After a proper sleep in Namche Bazaar, the trekkers wake up and have their breakfast. Once you are done with breakfast, our guides take you on a rather difficult section of the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek. On the fifth day, we ascend from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche, a scenic village that sits at an altitude of 3860 meters above sea level.

Starting from Namche Bazaar, trekkers will gain almost 1200 meters of altitude on this day. Besides, this section of the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lakes Trek passes through several mountain vistas, monasteries, small settlements, and a steep section in the middle. With so much to experience and such an adrenaline-rushing trail to ascend on, we finally reach Tengboche. Once you reach here, you can witness the oldest and largest monastery in the entire Khumbu region, the Tengboche Monastery.

Overnight stay and dinner will be served at a hotel or lodge in Tengboche.

On the sixth day, we leave Tengboche to advance to another beautiful settlement, Dingboche. It is a beautiful village located at an altitude of 4410 meters above sea level. Due to the high altitude and steep to ascend, the route becomes gradually difficult and the trekkers will pass through barren lands with less vegetation and greenery. However, the spectacular views of the mountains and snow-covered peaks make it extravagant and lovely.

As we walk for a couple of hours, have lunch, and again walk for another couple of hours, we finally reach Dingboche within 6 hours. In this village, the trekkers can enjoy, what we call, the pureness and serenity of the Himalayas. After that, the trekkers can rest in the hotel or guesthouse and be prepared for the upcoming ascends.

On the seventh day, the trekkers will make a halt in the 17-Day Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lake Trek to acclimatize before advancing any further. Dingboche is a beautiful village located at an altitude of 4410 meters above sea level. Therefore, the trekkers can enjoy such great panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayas and peaks.

As we are at such a high altitude and still have so much to ascend on, we will take a rest or acclimatization break in Dingboche. The trekkers will spend one whole day in Dingboche to adapt to the higher altitude and temperature change. However, that does not mean that we will sit idle throughout the day. Instead, our guides will take the trekkers on a quick day hike to Chukkung Valley.

A comparatively easy hiking trail at such a higher altitude takes us to the lodge village of the Khumbu region or the Everest Trekking region. You will love the views you get from this village. explore the village for some time, and take a closer look at the Himalayas before returning to the hotel in Dingboche.

From Dingboche, the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Valley Adventure advances further towards Lobuche. This section of the route starts as we head towards the northwest from Dingboche and pass through a shrine watching one of the best views of the Ama Dablam peak. Moreover, we also get a chance to ascend to the Khumbu Glacier.

On your way, you can also witness yaks and sheep grazing but remember that the vegetation is very little. Moreover, you might also get chances to play with the snow as you will almost be at an altitude of 5000 meters above sea level. Overnight stay and dinner will be arranged by the Adventure Bound team in a hotel or lodge in Lobuche.

Today, the trekkers finally ascend to the Everest Base Camp but before that, you will also ascend to the highest place of human settlement, Gorakshep. This section of the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lakes package offers the best experience to the trekkers as they will find themselves standing on the base camp of the highest peak of the world. However, due to extreme temperatures and unforeseen circumstances that might occur due to sudden changes in the climatic conditions, we will not stay in the Everest Base Camp for a very long time.

After spending some quality and dream time in the EBC, the trekkers head to Gorakshep, where they will spend the night. Remember that, we need to walk for 7 to 8 hours on this day and that too, on the most difficult section of the entire package. Therefore, we recommend all the trekkers to follow the instructions provided by the guides. Moreover, we also suggest you go for a slow-paced trek.

On the tenth day, as you wake up, Adventure Bound's guides will lead you on a hike to Kalapatthar. This is the best viewpoint of the entire Khumbu region and offers a better and clearer view of Mount Everest than what you get from the base camp. The Kalapatthar viewpoint is located at an altitude of 5550 meters above sea level and the trail is also very difficult. However, once you reach the top of Kalapatthar's viewpoint, the scenes you get to live are just amazing. This viewpoint offers a magical 360-degree view of Mount Everest, sunrise and sunset like nowhere else, and a cool, soothing breeze offering peace of mind and eyes at once.

The best of places do have some negative consequences as well. The same goes for Kalapatthar because we cannot stay there too long due to unforeseen and sudden climate change. Therefore, after spending some time and collecting as many memories as we want to, we will head down towards Zongla. Just two hours to go from Gorakshep to Kalapatthar and 4 to 5 hours to go to Zongla and we end today's walking journey. Remember that this is also one of the most difficult days of the entire Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek.

Another day and another journey awaits on the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes as the trekkers leave Zongla and advance towards Cho La Pass (5483m). Cho La Pass is one of the three highest passes in the Everest Trekking region. This again means that the trekkers need to prepare for another difficult and strenuous section of the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek.

The hike from Zongla (Dzongla) takes us through diverse landscapes where the trekkers can get mesmerizing views of cliffs, meadows, and valleys and not miss the high mountains. Once we reach Cho La Pass, we will be standing on the snow-covered land which makes the temperature very cold here despite of sun shining bright. One amazing fact about Cho La Pass is that this place is covered by snow for 9 months a year. Therefore, regardless of the season you choose to reach the Cho La Pass, you will get the chance to play with snow for sure.

The trekkers will spend some time in the Cho La Pass, checking out the surrounding environment and grasping as many memories as possible. After that, we leave Cho La Pass and descend towards Thagna. In this section of the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek, we recommend trekkers to carry crampons because we will walk by ice-covered, rock-made route to reach Thagna. From Cho La Pass, the trekkers need to walk for about 5 to 6 more hours passing through mesmerizing glaciers, rivers, and waterfalls. Finally, we will reach Thagna where we spend the night after having a fulfilling dinner.

Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast, and get ready for one more day to walk. Today, we advance to the highest freshwater lake in the world, Gokyo Lakes. Gokyo Lakes is a collection of 6 different lakes but we will visit the fifth lake on this package. Firstly, we ascend to Gokyo Valley and take some time to freshen up and have lunch before heading towards the fifth lake.

The peace, serenity, and pureness of the Gokyo Lakes will help trekkers recover all the energy and strength they have invested in the journey up until now. Furthermore, the lakes are placed so beautifully, surrounded by the Himalayas, making this place an absolute gem for travelers to spend some time. After exploring the fifth lake of the Gokyo Lakes series, we will head back to Gokyo Lake for dinner and an overnight stay. However, before that, you can also explore the nearby areas and enjoy the sunset from Gokyo Valley.

Have you heard about Gokyo Ri? If not, it is the highest point of the Gokyo Valley Trek. Now that we have reached Gokyo Valley, why not go for a short hike to Gokyo Ri? Hiking to Gokyo Ri from Gokyo Valley only takes about 2 to 3 hours but the route will be one of a kind. However, once you reach the viewpoint located at an altitude of 5,357m, you will be amazed by what you see around you. Trekkers will be standing above the clouds and watching the bird's-eye view of the Gokyo Valley and the blue water of the lakes.

After collecting heartful memories, we trek down to Machhermo. a village located at an altitude of 4200 meters above sea level. On reaching Machhermo, we will have already walked for 7 to 8 hours. Therefore, the trekkers will be very tired so, you can straight up go to your room and get freshened up before taking a quick stroll of the village. From the next day, we will completely be on a descending journey in the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trekking map.

On the fourteenth day, the Everest Base Camp Trek trail takes a turn into an easier descending journey. That is because the trekkers will descend from Machhermo to reach the most-developed town in the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lakes Map, Namche Bazaar. It takes about 6 hours for us to reach Machhermo to Namche Bazaar.

Trekkers can take a deep breath and feel relaxed as they reach Namche Bazaar because, after so many days, they finally reach a place with all the facilities and high-quality tea hotels, cafes, and guesthouses. You can take your time and delve into the local delicacies prepared here including yak cheese, Sukuti (dry meat), etc. You will love your stay here in Namche Bazaar before descending any further towards Lukla and then to Kathmandu.

This is the third and last day of the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trekking package. On this day, the guides will lead you from Namche Bazaar to Lukla which is at an altitude of 2800 meters above sea level. Even though this section of the route is not very difficult, you might feel exhausted as the total walking hours are around 7 to 8 hours. This section of the EBC with Gokyo Lakes Trekking route is very easy compared to any other section of the entire trail.

By the evening, we will reach Lukla, one of the most adventurous airports in the world. However, we will not get on any flights on this day because the trekkers need to rest for at least one more day before heading to Kathmandu. Have a tummy full of dinner and take a sound rest for the last day in the Everest Trekking region.

Today the trekkers will return to Kathmandu on a flight from Tenzing and Hilary Airport (Lukla). The trekkers will find themselves flying over the mighty Himalayas which within a few seconds goes over the city area. As you land in Kathmandu, our representatives will receive you and drive you to the hotel in a private vehicle. After that, you can rest for some time in the hotel or go out for a quick stroll in the nearby areas. In the evening, we invite all the trekkers for a farewell dinner and the trekkers can also give us their valuable feedback about how they liked the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek arrangement done by Adventure Bound.

Finally, it's the day when the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lakes Trek officially comes to an end. You will wake up in the morning and have breakfast. After that, the representatives from Adventure Bound will drive you to the airport as per your flight schedule. With high hopes of seeing you again, we bid farewell to all the trekking enthusiasts.

Useful Information

It is important to be noted that the Kathmandu -Lukla - Kathmandu flights often gets delayed by hours or even gets cancelled for a day or few days due to unfavorable weather conditions in the mountain airstrip Lukla. Such unfavorable conditions may arise even during the best seasons including months October and November hence inis always better to prepare ahead. In such cases, you must be prepared for long waits either at Kathmandu or Lukla airports, as this can happen either at the start or at the end of the trek and sometime in both cases.  We will do our best to avoid such delays, and arrange the earliest next flight for you but it might not always work well as there are many people in que for days long. In case of emergencies and need of urgent flight, the Helicopter rescue can be another option to escape to and from the mountain, except for some bad weather the Helicopters always have easy excess in the mountains. This can be arranged upon your request with some additional cost which sometime is covered by your insurance as well. The Helicopter can be chartered from both the airports, Kathmandu and Lukla with the tentative cost of US$ 3000 per lift which at a time can accommodate maximum of 5 Person. Having said this, we still suggest you to mentally prepare for possible delay/cancellations and arrange some extra contingency days which we can save for the end of the trip and if everything goes normal these days can be utilized for exploring other beautiful destinations around the valley as per your interest and we, the Adventure Bound is always there to provide you different options to utilize the days in best ways.
