About Kali Gandaki River

Rafting in the Kaligandaki River is one of the most popular and thrilling rafting trips in Nepal. Known for its challenging rapids, it remains a favorite among adventurers. The river is named after the revered goddess Kali and flows through the deepest gorge in Asia, bringing water from the 108 Kunda (religious spouts) of Muktinath in lower Mustang.

The Kaligandaki River is not only a natural wonder but also a sacred pilgrimage site in the Himalayas. Mustang, a prehistoric region, is home to fossils of ancient marine creatures, sometimes found in the riverbeds. Rafting in this river offers a unique blend of adventure and spirituality, as it’s named after the goddess Kali.

Along your journey, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the distinct culture of the people living near the river. Locals often gather at the riverbanks to witness your rafting adventure through Nepal’s remote mountain wilderness. The trip combines both an excursion to Pokhara and rafting in the Kaligandaki River, offering a complete experience.

We’ll pick you up from your hotel and drive to Newbridge (Kusma), about a 3-hour scenic journey with views of the Annapurna range. Upon arrival, our expert guides will provide a safety briefing before you gear up for an exciting rafting adventure on the Kali Gandaki.

The river offers a mix of thrilling rapids and calm stretches, perfect for soaking in the beauty. After a relaxing lunch on a riverside beach, we’ll continue rafting before reaching our campsite for the night. Enjoy a delicious dinner and unwind by the campfire or explore the area.

We begin our journey down the river, blending adrenaline-pumping rapids with calm stretches and stunning scenery, including views of Annapurna I and Himalchuli. Along the way, we’ll navigate several Class III sections and the challenging Class IV rapid known as Refund. This section promises an exciting and dynamic river adventure.

Raft from Purtighat to Mirmi, approximately 2 ½ hours of exciting river adventure, and conclude at the Dam take-out point. We’ll pack up our gear, and the return drive to Pokhara (about 4.5 hours) offers a moment to reflect on the exhilarating days past. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel.

Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey—every rapid challenged us, every landscape awed us, and every moment enriched our experience.
