Special Permit Fee Information for Travelers in Nepal

Nepal offers various restricted regions that require special permits for entry. Below is a breakdown of the special permit fees for different regions, as well as additional important information.

Kanchenjunga Region

USD 10 (1-4 persons), USD 20 (5+ persons)

Requires both Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit and Restricted Area Permit.

Makalu Region

USD 100 for the first 10 days, USD 20 per day after

Includes both Makalu-Barun National Park Permit and Restricted Area Permit.

Rara Lake Region

USD 50 per person

Famous for Rara Lake; requires a restricted area permit.

Nar Phu Valley

USD 100 for the first 7 days, USD 15 per day after

Restricted area; must trek with a guide.

Required for trekking in the Langtang National Park.


How to Apply for a Special Permit:

  1. Choose Your Trekking Agency: Use a licensed agency that can handle special permit applications.
  2. Submit Required Documents: You’ll need a passport copy, visa copy, and a completed application form.
  3. Pay the Fee: Special permits are paid in USD or NPR, depending on the immigration office or agency.
  4. Receive Your Permit: Permits are issued after processing, and can be picked up from the agency or Department of Immigration.
